The granddaddy of senior villages, Youngtown was started in 1954 by the Youngtown Land and Development Company. Although it is the world's first planned retirement town, it has remained small and compact while next door Sun City and Sun City West have mushroomed. It is an attractive, neatly groomed town with an active retail core and typical planned community amenities such as a clubhouse, lake, four parks, cactus gardens and a health club.
