A thriving working class town, Casa Grande was named for a large Hohokam adobe about 20 miles away from the city center. It was established in 1879 as a way station on a railroad being built to link Phoenix and Tucson. Incorporated in 1915, it's the largest community in Pinal County. Once primarily an agricultural community, the town is working hard to attract industry and retail trade.

Casa Grande is becoming popular with retirees, and it offers two senior centers and several mobile home parks. A few Snowbirds are drawn here as well, attracted by the relatively inexpensive facilities.
